For me, coincidence is the most important part of my photography. Experiment, see what comes out. I am chaotic and not patient enough to work in a very strict way. Because of this “disability”, I decided to use it and embrace it, to purposely search for it.

Parameters is searching for keywords, using smart collections in the Lightroom catalog to see what they have in common. Rest, Green, lines, dance and cars are all series that are on my website because of keywording.

Example of images in the series green

Focus on 1.2 meters is another one. I do this at least ones a year.

Example of my 1.2 meters excersise

1.2 meter; a way I make images I would normally never do

Micro project; "while walking the dog"

I gave Nathan the 1.2 meter assignment as we collaberated in this project of "blurred lines" .

The one I got back is "blurred lines"

Walking my dog with the camera to search for blurry lines. I got to think how to make them and what are blurry lines.

And talking about strategies: the dictitinairy is my old friend. In the Netherlands we have a dictionary called "Koenen" that gives very nice descriptions, almost poems of words. As a result, it often gives good ideas for a photo or concept.

These are my end results. Working from a strategy is almost too easy for me. I teach my students and often do it myself. I think the results are good but it is not really satisfying. I made this series within 3 hours and that feels too volatile for me. The hardest thing is making a selection.

This are the kind of assignments I give my students.

- The way from school to home in 10 images

- Follow your feed

- Make an image every 50 meters

- Water

- Look for faces

- Look for lines

- Nature in the city

My husband has done a project taking photo's for 3 years in a radius of 3 kilometers around our house. He is now finishing the project.
