This week we had to re-photograph a place and do so for a couple of weeks.

I looked for several images made in my surroundings.

These are images by Helena van der Kraan made in Rotterdam. I wonder which one of the two on the right has the correct collour. The photos do not inspire me to copy them.

Do I have to think about copyright when copying a photo? In the case of the images below, in both cases the painting was made based on the photo.

The court judged that the top photo is plagiarism.

In the case of the lower painting, the painter has mentioned the name of the photographer, so she does not find her to be blamed. However, she did receive € 80,000 for the assignment while the photographer, as far as I know, received none of it.

Back to finding something for re-photographing:

Michiel Van Bakel a visual artist who uses all kind of photographic processes.

His glass façade is a building close by; I could go there several times without a problem. The architect of the building is Rem Koolhaas and the name of the building “the Rotterdam”.

From the site of Michiel:

The glass facade of ‘De Rotterdam’ as seen from the Erasmus Bridge. The bridge comes to life through movements of people, pulsating traffic and the gusts of wind. A camera (slit-scan) is recording -extremely slow- the vibrations. These undulations are enhanced by a special camera tripod.

The way Michiel used a scanner very slow inspired me to scan the flowers. My first results:

I will definitely scan more this week but need some bigger flowers to use to get more white and less green.

Results with bigger flower and constant movement

Pauzes in the moving I like more

Scanning while moving the flower under a sheet of paper I get intrigued with the light and the and how soft the flower looks through the paper.

Conclusion; I didn't think I'd get this result. I am happy with it and others respond well to it. Laura told me that aspects remind her of waves. She also sees this reflected in the landscapes. Funny that there seems to be a similar shape.
