Yesterday, we went with a ferry to take photos. In this case the ferry was a boat with 2 masts on which people live. You can make a reservation to sail with them and we had 15 people this time.A strange idea to sail with strangers in your own house but I liked the experience very much. It gets personal and intimate, very fast because the environment is not sterile. We made two stops. One to drop of 4 peolple with there bikes (we picked them up on our way back). The other on an island were we walked 3 hours in the pouring rain.
The Haringvliet is a water that is closed off with a dam that was built after the great flood in 1953. This effected only the south western part of the Netherlands. The consequences; 1836 men, women and children died, one hundred thousand people had to flee. More than 47,000 cattle and 140,000 poultry died. The map shows all the parts that got flooded.

Normally the dam only opens to let water out that comes from the rivers. But now, because of the climate change, in the middle and east of the country the groundwater level is dropping extremely, which means that the country is also dropping, the decision has been made that the water in the Haringvliet should remain as high as possible and this can also mean that the water will become brackish. Measurements are constantly being made of the influence of seawater. The bizarre thing about this water is that flamingos have been found for a few years. This year 18 counted. Flamingos normally occur in a much warmer environment. The fact that you encounter them in the Netherlands is worrying. We could see 3 of them with binoculars. The boat didn't come close enough to make photos.
This time I took 2 camera's with me as an experiment. The normal one (left) and infrared (right image). The infrared has a fixed 35mm lens, with other lenses I get all kind of internal reflections.
I am going to see wether I can combine the 3D depth map from the one and the image itself from the other image. They have to be made at the same place / with the same subject. While writing this article I am rendering the first try; tomorrow, I will know more.
