Clouds are fractals I learned through the Netflix series the code (serie 2 season 1 at 40 min). Fractals are how nature builds the world. With elements patterns that have the same qualities regardless of the size: a small cloud looks the same as a big one and certain shapes are seen over and over again and are therefore named.
Each part is like the whole, but smaller.
Benoit Mandelbrot became famous for finding this order in regularity in nature; a formula.
Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, repeated without end. (1985)
The image of clouds here is computer generated using the measurements / number of roughness from nature.

It looks simple but it is also complicated. The regularity in it is the roughness. And roughness is a slider that I use in photoshop for the materials of the shape, based on the image.

In "the code" a link is made to the work of Jackson Pollock that also has this fractal quality to it and that made the work so very special and different to other work made before. We see that an machine is build to remake Pollock look-alike work.
This fractal idea is used in games and films to get landscapes and background at it is build with triangles. In a TED talk Mandelbrot explains how it is about the roughness of the outside.
The idea of fractals is shown in the Madelbrot set which, in a visually way, reminds me of the Rochester test which I wrote about a year ago. He came up with a formula that in a computer gets the results of a repetition of a form smaller, and smaller, repetitive.

As for how this knowledge can help me? not sure yet but I have the idea that there is something that I will com back to in a later stage of my projects. It is somehow very importent.
