Yesterday I went to the Elliot Hall gallery with work. Last week I called to make an appointment.
Already while calling they told me they were not hiring. Now it wasn't that bad for me, although that would have been nice. Beforehand I had a good look at the work and the photographers they represent. In any case, that work was different from mine and the ouvre is also very diverse.
The work they represent is very photographic. They told me that 3 of the images that are currently in the gallerie exhibited are screenshots. They gad to thought very carefully about them for days while they definitely fit into the series.
I printed my work twice; small on white paper and with different sites on cotton paper. I took my older series with me as well as the small books I made for the previeus module.
The reactions on the new work
Intriguing, beautiful images
Not good curated; I pinten them in series of 2, 3 and 4. That way I had 6 big prints; the liked 3 of them as presented but didn't like the other 3. I have to review them.
Make all images same size
The problem with the work, I told them was that everybody likes different images the best (they did as well) They told me to see it as a compliment. Often you see that in a series everybody likes the same image best and that is the one sold the most. Often the only one sold.
The paper of the big prints is the right paper. They liked the softer look as well as the seizen of the biggest ones.
I have to print at least 40cm in Portfolio and place 2 by 2 together, not more
If I go somewhere else, I just have to show the clouds because they see the progressie and this series is better in their opinion than the landscapes.
The books are well curated and they were glad that we ended with that
I have to go to art galleries, not photo galleries
I have to keep in mind that most of the time I can’t present my work; so I have to make the series, the portfolio in a way that it tells the story on its own.

I thought it was great that they took time to look at my work and discuss that. We agreed in advance that they would be straight forward and honest. So the Dutch and not the very polite, English, way. That made it very clear and I am sure what they thought about it; felt good.
